Roblin Mills Cemetery, Sophiasburgh Township, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada
Notes:
This cemetery is located just off Highway 15 on the east side of the road along the Bayshore (Concession 1, SWGP, Lot 34).
Philip, a son of John ROBLIN, pioneer of that family, settled at Green Point, where he built a grist mill. This mill served the people for miles around, sparing them the lengthy trek to Kingston.
The family business was continued by Philip Jr., and eventually ROBLIN's MILLS became a main commercial centre in Prince Edward County.
Nine children were born to the founder of ROBLIN's MILLS and his wife, Prudence PLATT, and many of their descendants became distinguished members of the County. Among these were John P. ROBLIN, a member of the Reform Party in the Upper Canada Legislature for sixteen years, and Sir Rodmond Palen ROBLIN, Premier of Manitoba.
Several stones remain entangled in the brush. Among these, the first burial is that of Thomas W. PORTT, who died July 1827, aged 30 years. The latest is that of Mary W. PORTT, wife of Thomas, mother of George R., died July 23, 1875, at 72 years.
Some of the prominent names in this cemetery are ROBLIN, PORTT and PALMER.
