- (Research):Traveled to the US to try and earn a better living (after Stanley was born or just before) but wasn't successful. He returned home when his father passed away (date unknown). He managed to bring back three items, a blanket for his bed (the family had no blankets, just slept in their outdoor clothes), a tin of cookies (which the children loved) and a pair of rubber galoshes for his wife. Karolina loved the galoshes and would proudly wear them to church much to the envy of the other women. One day however one of her children put them too close to the fire to dry them and they melted. *Story told to Jeanie by Stanley
