- Will of James PURNELL of Hallatrow.
In the Name of God Amen, The Seaventeenth day of February 1686/7, I Jam
es PURNELL of Hallatrow in the parish of high Litelton in the County of So mersett, Clothier, not being well in body but of perfect mind and memor y, thankes be given to God for it, calling to mind the mortallity of my bo dy and that it is appointed for allmen once to dye, doe here make and orda ine my last Will and Testament in manner and forme as followeth, that is to say,
First and principally, I give my soule into the hands of God my maker a nd Redeemer, And my body to the Earth,to be buried in decent manner.
And as touching any worldly Estate, as it hath pleased God to bless me wi th a small part in this life, I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth SALLM ON of Paulton, my intended wife, the ground at Withy Mills, with that whi ch was formerly in the possession of Edward HORT and to enter it in two ye ares time after my decease.
Also, I give and bequeath to Cheryty HILL of Masbury [Marksbury], daught er of the Widdow HILL of Masbury, one ground called Custom, formerly in po ssession of John HILL of Masbury and to enter into it at the end of two ye ares after my decease.
Also, I give and bequeath unto Hanna HILL, her sister, one little meadow c alled East Close, former in the possession [of] John HILL aforesaid a nd to enter into it at the end of two yeares after my decease.
Also, all the remaining part of my Estate, I give to my loveing and tend er Father Robert PURNELL, whom I appoint to be my sole Executor, to recei ve my debts and to disburse my funerall charges, the rest to take unto him selfe, not doubting but he will dispose the same where he sees most nee d. James PURNELL.

Probate granted at PCC London on 4th April 1687 to Robert PURNELL, fath er of the deceased and Executor
named in the Will.
