Cause: Suicide by drowning while temporarily insane
    • Aged 84 years 8 Months

Levi drowned himself in the muddy pond behind the big red barn that can be seen from his tombstone at Fish Lake. Apparently, in his old age, he and his second wife Elizabeth Osbourne had no "means" to live on. But his sons by his first wife would not support their step-mother. So the old folks were separated and one of her girls took Elizabeth Osbourne Roblin in. But old Levi was lonesome without her and committed suicide.

    • Roblin's Mills at Sophiasburgh had one of the best mill sites in the County. Five mills operated within a half mile. The water was diverted from mill wheel to mill wheel by sluices. There was a mill at the edge of the cliff, below it stood the original Roblin mill called the Cooperage. Further down were two mills run off the same wheel-one for sawing and one for grinding. The waters from this mill were carried by overhead sluice to the last mill which stood near the bay. This one is known as Levi Roblin's Mill. Levi built his home on the dock because he loved the water. His mill was run by the pouring water from the sluice over a paddle wheel and it, in turn, worked an arm which turned a flywheel. The Roblin mills were adjacent to the shipyards. - from Picton's 100 Years: 1837-1937

Levi Roblin, one of the brothers previously mentioned, built a saw mill at the foot of the ravine near the bay, and likewise a private residence. The former was equipped with an old fashioned upright saw, worked by a water wheel and crank, and which for many years did the principal share of custom sawing, and was the only saw mill in an extensive region. Its persistent measured beats were and object of interest to youthful eyes that watched its movements by the hour.

Levi was born and raised at Roblin's Mills near Green Point and became a miller at his parents mill of the same location. He presumably lived with his parents until his marriage to Mary Shortt in about 1812. According to the historical marker at the Roblin homestead on Fish Lake Road, Levi purchased this property in 1821, and may have lived there. However this property was some distance from his 'job' in Roblin's Mills and so it seems likely that it was purchased as a rental property with tenant farmers. There was (and still was in July 2001) a small house near the Roblin homestead house that was the tenant house. According to Wannamaker, Levi lived in a house near the school at the crosssroads to the James Platt Roblin farm (i.e., the Roblin Family homestead), which is now the junction of highway 35 and Fish Lake Road. Wannamaker also states that Levi and Phillip III jointly inherited the Roblin's Mills land and buildings upon his father's death in 1848. It seems likely that the mills were becoming less profitable by this time as the economy was changing and timber less plentiful. In 1871, Levi described himself as a farmer in the Ontario census, although it seems likely that this was not true as he was 78 at the time.

His wife Mary died in 1828 (childbirth ?) and shortly thereafter Levi married Elizabeth Osbourne with whom he has four more children (Maria, 1831; Thomas M., 1832-1915; Caleb, 1836-1907; Prudence, 1841; Adelaide, 1845).

Levi was buried in the Roblin Family Cemetery on Fish Lake Road, next to the Roblin Family homestead presumably the home of his son James Platt at the time. [8, 18, 19, 20]
