Ryland in 1881 Census

Monday May 9 1898

Ryeland is a man between 40-45. Has been 20 years in the police force. Always in Hoxton. Was on the GWR before joining. Brown short beard & mustache. Teetotaler. Pay 34p per week. Rather over medium height. Black soft felt hat. Knows district well. Offends a little by his self conscious righteousness but is really good.

8217 When the Second World War erupted in 1939, he enlisted in the Canadian Army as a private. Longing to become a pilot, he took private flying lessons and achieved a transfer in the spring of 1940 to the fledgling Royal Canadian Air Force. His eyesight wasn't good enough for him to qualify as a pilot, but he was shipped overseas as a junior officer in 1942 in a tactical and operations unit. Deeply involved in the tactical planning for D-Day, he landed in Normandy on June 30, 1944, and helped chase the retreating Axis forces through France into Holland, all the way to Hamburg, Germany. By the time he was demobilized in 1946, he had the rank of a wing commander in the RCAF. ROBLIN, Honourable Charles Dufferin PC, CC, OM, LLD, DC (I9912)

Possible first Marriages these are the brothers of James (below) who was living next door to Mary in the censuses.

WILLIAM STARK
Spouse: MARY POLLARD Family
Marriage:

(Above is most likely example, based on age of Mary at Marriage and also the fact that Robert who was born in 1824 seems to clearly state Thomas was his father so the below marriage would have been after that and therefore wouldn't work.)

JOSEPH STARKE
