6804 | Samuel Wiltshire Dies on Thursday Former Ludington Resident Passes away at Farm Hone Near Branch. Scottville, Mich., Sept. 17. - Death came to Samuel Wiltshire 76 years of age, at his home in Branch at 2 o'clock Thursday morning. Mr. Wiltshire had been confined to his bed since June 20. His illness was due to arterio-sclorosis. Samuel Wiltshire was born in England, June 23 1851. He lived there until after his marriage to Elizabeth Hughes Rayland(sp), and soon after came to America. For several years they lived in Canada, later coming to Illinois, where they made their home in Freeport. They came to Ludington 20 years ago and for years conducted a tin shop on James street. Mr. Wiltshire also conducted a chicken ranch near Epworth, where he became noted for one of the first attempts at this line in the county. Later his health failed and in 1918 he purchased a farm near branch where he was able to enjoy a quieter life. Mr Wiltshire was a strong character. Everyone who came in contact with him in any capacity were impressed by his honesty and outspoken stand for the right. He lived his Christianity, making it a part of his every day life and his dealing. During the years when it was possible he attended the Baptist church at Ludington. Surviving are the widow, three sons and three daughters. The sons are Frank Wiltshire of Iroquois, Ill; Ebenezer of Lansing, and Samuel of Athelstane Wis. The daughters are Mrs. Ethel Bruisker of Forreston, Ill; Mrs. Frances James of Freport, Ill, and Miss Lilly Wiltshire at home. The children were all at home with their parents when the father passed away, except Samuel, who is expected to arrive in time for the funeral. Funeral services will be held from the home at Branch at 2 o'clock fast time, Sunday afternoon. Rev. Gustave Edwin Anderson of the Washington Avenue Baptist church, Ludington will officiate.
