1741 Will Extract St. Stephens [8126] [PROB11/714]
Teatator - Thomas Knowlton of Park Street Parish of St Stephens Yoeman. "Already surrendered all my customary or copyholds messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments and premises with appurtenances holden of the manor of Park Bury and Hemel Hempstead to the use of my will and testament.
Younger grandson - William Knowlton all copyhold land etc. in Park Bury and Bottom Field in Hemel Hempstead.
Kinsman John Thrale of J. Hammonds yeoman executor.
Dated 9 July 1741 - Proved 8 Dec? 1741 - Prerogative Court of Canterbury.
Looking at the full will, Thomas does not mention his wife or son which would indicate thta prehaps they were already dead. There was also a Grandson Thomas mentioned to whom he left land - Bodsend - which was "holden by my daughter Elizabeth Knowlton". He mentioned his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Knowlton and left her 10 pounds.
Money was also left to Mr. Goodall, the Minster of Box Lane meeting [an Independent Chapel] in Hemel; the Poor of Box Lane Meeting; the Poor of St. Stephens; the Presbyterian minister of St. Albans and the Charity School of the Presbyterians; his kinsman John Thrale of Hammonds, yeoman. He also left money to a couple of friends. It would seem that both his grandsons were under 22/24 years when the will was written.
