    I remember my mother saying that her father was an electrician and worked on building a major dollhouse that I electrician was made for the princess of England. My mother didn't tell me much about her childhood except that her father was strict and they had very little money.

    A Nanny/Nurse to the Tsar of Russia before he was overthrown

    I believe this was the Alice Ryland who nursed with Edith Cavell at the Berkendael Institute in Brussels. Edith Cavell was court marshalled and shot by the Germans in August 1915 when charged with harbouring refugees and helping 150 of them to escape. Alice married a Dutch bulb grower and settled in Norfolk, England. She died at some time in the 1950's intestate and her estate was shared among the five surviving children of her brother, William Ryeland, our grandfather, following an advertisement in the national press. Each received around 2,000 pounds.
