    Notes:

    Eldest Son

    Birth:
This age is a low end estimate based off his military service. He would have had to have been 18 years old in 1758 when he first started serving (or older) and he could have been no older than 45 years old in 1782 his last year of service.

Also in his father's will dated 18 Jun 1757 he is the only of the four children who is over the age of 21. It may be the case that the will was written due to his becoming and adult. So if he was 21 in June 1757 and not yet 45 in 1782 (month unknown) then 1736 seems a very good guess for his year of birth.

Conflicting data comes from his burial which states he was aged 50 when he was burried. But that makes him too young for the above.

    Will:
Testator - Thomas Knowlton of Hemel Hempstead draper
Daughter in law - Penelope Bates [what did he mean by this? Granddaughter? No wife or children mentioned...]
Mother - Mary Knowlton - Executrix
Sister - Mary Knowlton - Executrix
    Ann Pitchford
    Date: 24 June 1782
Probate granted to Mary Knowton 15 sep 1795

    Died:
    Will probated on that date

    Buried:
Hemel Hempstead Burials 1795 June 22
    Thomas Knowlton aged 50 years

  2. 6.  Mary KNOWLTON Descendancy chart to this point (4.Thomas2, 1.Elizabeth1) was born about 1738; and died.

    Notes:

    Eldest Daughter - unmarried 15 Sep 1795

    Birth:
Based on the fact that she is the eldest daughter in her father's will written 18 June 1757 yet is not yet 21 years old (her brother Thomas is). So she is the 2nd child and her birthdate is very roughly 1738.

    Birth:
Was "21 years and upwards" in 1773 when marriage bond was taken

Not yet 21 years old and "youngest daughter" in her father's will written 18 June 1757

Age listed as 56 in her 1809 marriage to William TURNER

    Christened:
Unable to find a will for Ann or her siblings, it's possible they were baptised in non-conformist chapels in the area as there is some indication that the family flirted with the non-conformist movement. The records for those chapels have not survived.

Hampshire Record Office copy of the baptism of Ann Knowlton gave the following, either it is the wrong Ann or the father's name was recorded incorrectly. At this point it can't be used given this problem.

    1753 Bramshaw baptism register Hampshire
Anne daughter of William and Mary Knowlton June 9
