    • Army trained oboe player. Raised mostly in an LCC orphanage (father consumptive). Had been placed as a boy entrant in the Royal West Kent regiment and sent out to India. He obtained a staff appointment in the Governor of Bengal's orchestra. Came home and joined the Metropolitian Police in 1931, just prior to his marriage. [1]
