  We find a John Penny married Judith WOOD, 23 Jul 1768 in St Mary's The Virgin Church, Dover, Kent. They had the following children: i. Ann PENNY; Born 1769. Christened 13 Dec 1769 in Folkestone, Kent. ii. Richard PENNY iii. William Wood PENNY; Born 1775. Christened 24 May 1775 in Folkestone, Kent. Research Batch No P020721. John PENNY married Judith WOOD, had three known children, and was of HMS Burford when he died 1779 in South Africa. His wife Judith died 1805 Folkestone. According to his descendant Shelley Haigger, John Penny was an able seaman on HMS Burford and the Public Records Office at Kew indicates he died in 1779 in a hospital in Simonstown - must be South Africa. However there wasn't any official hospital in Simonstown at the time, but Simonstown was then a place under Dutch control where ships would stop. It was Judith PENNY (widow of John) who was buried in Folkestone. John died in South Africa. I eventually found him as John PANNY bp 1741 son of Richard and Sarah PANNY. I don't have any evidence to support my theory that my John PENNY (husband of Judith WOOD) COULD be the son of Richard and Sarah but I can say that he was not previously married to Elizabeth SMITH - that was a different John PENNY. Therefore, John PENNY (son of Baker PENNY and Elizabeth MIDDLETON) married Elizabeth SMITH but he did not marry Judith WOOD."
