    Thomas was a banker in Ireland where he met his wife while serving in Co. Leitrim. After some years in Saskatchuan, he returned to claim his good lady. He served in the Bank of Montreal for several of Canada's larger cities. Before retirement Thomas occupied one of the chief posts in their great network of Branches. He now lives in a fine English style home in 247 Montrose St Winnipeg, and recieves a very ample pension from the Bank he served so well. Awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1945 while in Edmonton.

    Whereas we have thought fit to nominate and appoint you to bear additional office of the civil division of our said most excellent order of the British Empire we do by these presents grant unto you the dignity of an additional officer of our order and hereby authorize you to have, hold and enjoy the said dignity and rank of an additional officer of our aforesaid order together with all and singular the priveleges thereunto belonging or appertaining.

    Given at our court at Saint Hames under our sign manual and the seal of our said order this first day of July 1946 in the tenth year of our reign.

    The Downpatrick Dicksons were buried in the Non-Subscribing Presbyterian graveyard.

    DICKSON (Limestone headstone). Erected by Eliza Dickson in mem. of her husband Robert Dickson, Bonecastle, who d. Dec.15 1891 and his brother William who d. Dec.25 1891. The above Eliza Dickson d. Ap. 9 1921. (The will of Robt. Dickson or Dixon late of Bonecastle, farmer, who d. Dec.25 1891 at same place was proved at Belfast Sept.12 1892 by Samuel Dickson of Ballykilbeg and Samuel McCombe of Drumarode both farmers, two of the executors. Effects one thousand three hundred and sixty one pounds.

    The will of William Dickson, otherwise Dixon was proved at Belfast Sept.12 1892 by Eliz. Dickson of Bonecastle, widow, the executrix. Effects 319 pounds.

    Robert married Eliza MCCOMBE on 6 Feb 1873 in Bonecastle, Downpatrick, , Down, Northern Ireland. Eliza (daughter of William MCCOMBE and Margaret BINGHAM) was born on 23 Mar 1843 in Leitrim, Northern Ireland; died on 9 Apr 1921. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Mrs. Dickson was left a widow then Thomas was about five. She proved to be a wise mother, and a shrewd business woman. She added to the family lands by buying an adjacent farm where the freater part of her widowed years were spent with her family, who surely "rose up to call her blessed". Her boys responded to her wise training and were a credit to her. Grandfather Heenan's memory of her - "she was real handsome".
